Kristin Hubert Joins VSAC as GEAR UP Director

VSAC’s GEAR UP works in partnership with the US Department of Education to enhance college and career readiness for high school students across Vermont

Winooski, Vermont, July 15, 2024 – Kristin Hubert will lead VSAC’s GEAR UP, an acronym for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. VSAC’s GEAR UP works in partnership with the US Department of Education to enhance college and career readiness for high school students across Vermont. Hubert replaces Dianne Griggs, who retired.

Hubert served for many years as an elementary school principal, and as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Rutland Northeast Supervisor Union (RNESU). For the past two years she has been the Superintendent of the RNESU. She also serves on faculty for the VTSU-Castleton Principal Preparation Program and in the Transformative School Leadership doctoral program at Northeastern University.Woman smiles for camera in an office.

“Kristin brings in-depth experience in public education in Vermont,” said Scott Giles, VSAC President and CEO. “Her passion for supporting student success and working with teachers as an instructional leader will benefit VSAC’s nationally recognized outreach staff and programming, as well as VSAC as a whole.”

A resident of Rutland, Hubert enjoys spending time on the water with her husband, two grown daughters, and two dogs (including a Bernedoodle puppy).

VSAC’s GEAR UP serves 6th through 12th graders in 35 middle and high schools across the state. Each year, VSAC’s GEAR UP works with over 2,500 middle/high school students and 300 students in their first year of postsecondary education or training. VSAC also provides outreach to students’ families, helping to make sure they have the postsecondary education or training and career planning information—and the financial support—they need to best support their students throughout their education journey.
